Now I shall begin by saying, that this isn't a movie I was originally going to watch, I just happened to leave my umbrella at the movies because they don't allow it inside the hall and then decided to book a random movie after an exam as a form of celebration and an excuse to go to the theatre to get back my umbrella.
Yes, I watched this movie for an Umbrella.
But I am glad I did, cause I do not remember the last time I liked a movie this much.
Because this movie has a really interesting premise that isn't horrifying at all I promise.

After an incident leaves Famed officer Knight unable to use his head and his dog Greg unable to use his body, they sew the Dog's head to the man's body making DOGMAN!!!
Medical malpractice aside, given that everyone in the "Ohkay" Town is a sewn doll this horrifying premise becomes amazing as the officer has a pea brain but a great body while the dog has a great brain but shit body.
And yes the swear word is intentional, as this movie actually has a lot of those in a creative way.
Adding to this horrifying premise is the fact that Officer Knight's wife and Greg's second favorite human leaves Dogman once he is created cause "she ain't waiting around for no dogman"
And yet somehow Dogman manages to make this one of the cheeriest movies ever, because for someone who should be in the ditch with depression, Dogman is pretty happy and leads in his small little home a happy life.
A life of stopping crime and catching the evil Cat named Petey.

Speaking of his capture, for a children's movie this one has a surprising amount of political, commentary specially when the mayor of the city blames Dogman for the repeated escape of Petey from prison when the real reason is the fact that the prison is shit.
And for a movie that is all about being good and feel good vibes, it has a lot of satire like a lot of it, I wish I could give examples but my memory is poor, so just take my word for it.
This is a movie that knows how to use self aware humor well.
Like let's talk about Petey, the main guy that Petey reminds me of, is Joker

The main shtick of the LEGO Joker is that he is actually a lonely fellow who just wants some company, which is why by the end he actually helps LEGO Batman and the rest of the Justice League to save the world From certain destruction.
Now that is Petey to a T, he was abandoned as a child and so he acts out by doing evil in his "Petey's Secret Evil Lab" and Lashing out at his Junior assistant who he refuses to pay properly either cause he can't or doesn't know how, and that is a Running joke in this movie.
But because this assistant isn't up to his incredibly high standards, and he blames her for his Failures, he fires her and decides to make a clone of himself who thinks exactly like him to help him and cure his loneliness.
What he doesn't know is that he has to wait eighteen years for this clone to grow to full adulthood, essentially he has a kid and now is a single Father.
And you know what it is they say, having a Kid is your second Chance to grow up and see those parts of yourself that you never knew were there.

And that is exactly what this kid does for Petey as he shows him the hopeful parts buried deep within him that he had long since forgotten because frankly the world is all mud pools and toxic waste.
But lil'Petey sees different, lil'Petey becomes friends with Dogman when he feels Abandoned by Petey due to a misunderstanding.
The interesting thing is that Petey when presented with a Kid does the exact same thing that his Dad did, unknowingly sure, but he did.
Thankfully lil'Petey forgives him and even tries to reconcile him with his own dad using the robot 80HD, who can find anything.
Yes my friends that is an ADHD joke.
Ultimately though Petey proves different from his father cause he goes back for his kid and rescues him from an evil fish he reincarnated to "destroy all do gooders" of course when he made that he was still wearing the mask of being evil, but as lil'Petey's scan prove, Petey is a do gooder at heart, as remember lil'Petey is a clone, so if he is a do gooder, then so is Petey.
So in the end to save the world from brought to life buildings(trust me it makes sense in the movie) and the evil fish Petey and Dogman team up, and finally they decide to save even the evil fish making him loose his evil powers and almost drop Petey into a Volcano but he is saved by Dogman throwing the ball that had his old name "Greg" on it, making the ultimate sacrifice and finally saving the Day.
So in the end evil was defeated by the power of Friendship and they all lived happily ever after, no... there is one building remaining.
But that is cool this one just wants to dance.
So that was Dogman, a film full of witty self aware satirical comedy that hits the mark and can be watched by kids, take your family to watch it you will no regret it.
