It: Welcom to Derry, The recurrent Trauma through generations.

Pennywise Confronts Dick Halloran

One of the many things that many people might not be aware of unless they are like Stephen King Aficionados, is that there is an almost potentially confirmed theory that all of Stephen King's works take place in a single shared universe, or rather a multiverse.

Which is quite strange because Stephen King actually wrote the Dark Tower series as a way to connect all his worlds together, with the Dark Tower being a literal and metaphorical nexus amongst all the worlds and works.

One of the main recurrent themes through all his works is the concept of the "Shine" a psychic ability that some people(mostly Trauma Survivors) have that allows them to have entire conversations without opening their mouths even once.

It is a psychic Ability that allows one to read minds and convey information to others without letting anyone but the intended target know about it, and it also allows a form of sixth sense and prescience to the wielder.

In essence it is a fictionalized and highly exaggerated version of the pattern recognition and heightened awareness that many Trauma survivors develop as a coping/survival mechanism after surviving something unthinkable.

It also encompasses the unspoken connections that survivors of a common Trauma face.

Some online Theories pose that the ritual of Chud that was done by the losers club made heavy use of the Shine abilities they all possessed.

In a sense the cosmic Entity known as IT or more commonly as Pennywise the Dancing Clown also the Shining ability, only to be expected since it sees itself as "abused" first by crashlanding here on Earth and then by humans who laid claim on it's lands.

And then by Maturin the Benevolent Giant Turtle who existed long before the Universe itself and spat it out on an occasion.

Martuin the Cosmic Turtle

The Entity in a sense then is the kind of abuse victim that uses it's own imagined/real Trauma to justify inflicting it on others, "I am just feeding" he must say.

Dick Halloran having the Shine himself is therefore the perfect "compass" for finding this entity.

And in order to do that for the military industrial Complex, Halloran agrees to go on a Flight with Major Hanlon over the General Area where the Entity is expected to be.

As the fly over said Area Dick begins to have a vision of being locked in a Vault and water filling up the place, which is a telltale sign of the entity.

The entity sees Dick in reverence as it sees his own powers reflected back at him and wonders who this man is.

He tries to eliminate Dick by immediately latching onto his dead Grandmother and trying to make him unlock the Air Hatch and throw himself off the plane.

Unfortunately for IT, Hanlon saves Dick in the nick of time.

Hanlon saves Dick

Dick speaks to General Francis Shaw about the sighting and is pretty shaken up all things considered, he pretty much straight up tells him that this wasn't supposed to happen, the entity wasn't supposed to see them, and yet it did, and it knows the ace up their sleeve, it knows of Dick's Shine.

(I beg the readers to be mature about this.)

Dick Halloran is later invited by Hanlon to his home to have dinner with him and his wife, where he lets slip his Shine ability by asking about Hanlon's son when he had never been told by Hanlon of his existence.

Hanlon pieces together that on the night he was attacked Halloran was present and that he felt the same feeling he feels now, revealing that he might have his own Shine or some sort of radar/resistance to it.

I say the second part mainly because Dick then goes to reveal that when Hanlon had a gun to his head, the part of his brain that should be afraid just wasn't there, instead he was just analyzing his situation.

That is why he is the perfect man for this job, the Entity preys on people's fears and Hanlon has none, I wonder whether this had anything to do with his previously mentioned brain Injury.

But enough of that.

Lilly is released from Juniper Hill.

Lilly is being freed from Juniper hill right after we saw her get into it the last episode... that... was quick...

But regardless, it seems unlike in Stephen King's novels the place ain't all bad, I mean at least the head of the housekeeping staff seems somewhat nice and compassionate (at least to Lilly for now...) And it is her who puts the Idea of filming "IT" in her head.

And to try and make things up with Ronnie.

Ronnie currently doesn't want to talk with Lilly, for very obvious reasons, but Lilly tries anyways, telling her that she will tell the Truth but since she has been to Juniper again anyways, no one will believe her, and they will only believe that which they can see.

How do we get that?

Why by using Hanlon's son of course, him and Rich previously discuss whether Ronnie's dad being sent to Jail is fair or not, with Rich saying that you can't just throw anyone in Jail and this is America and Will asks if they are speaking of the same country, showing the obvious disparity between the White American and African American experience.

And since Will is already somewhat Sympathetic towards Ronnie, he agrees to develop their Camera Film even though he clearly finds the story unbelievable.

Rich and Will discuss Will being in love.

The Clearly not in love Will and the Clearly not full of Shit Rich plan to do a Seance type shit to call what Rich calls an Orixa or an evil spirit, he says his uncle had a way to summon them, and takes the four of them to a graveyard.

Only to reveal that all of it was kinda sorta bullshit because his uncle didn't even teach him this, his cousin did... lol...

I love Rich, I finally found someone worse at making friends than me, and worse at keeping them around apparently.

Because Lilly and Ronnie screw off once they find out how the boys really feel about them, and then the four of them immediately get separated and are individually picked at by the entity, thankfully though, they are able to photograph the shit out of it, and able to get away safe...

And also thankfully, the Entity isn't just Psychological and is actually physically present there, which is why it shows up in the pictures... Or maybe that is just a trick by the entity also... I mean the music did get menacing...

Whether or not that's because Pennywise finally revealed itself or because this is all just a trick by the entity, you be the judge lol...

Real Pennywise caught on tape lols.

But speaking of Pennywise the Dancing Clown, it appears that there is another clown that either inspired or is somehow related to Pennywise.

Because Surprise, Surprise there is more to the episode.

In the very beginning we see the beginning of Francis Shaw's obsession with the "IT" entity, as we go 54 years before to see a then around ten years old Francis who goes to a fair with his military Father in Derry.

There, two things occur, firstly, he goes into a haunted house attraction where he meets someone called the "Skeleton Man" And also there are two conjoined twins, which were obviously a staple of "circus freak" attractions at the time... what can be done.

Not Pennywise the Dancing Clown

But like many have pointed out, they could potentially be a reference to the infamous Grady twins from another Stephen King work, the Shining, which obviously heavily influences this work as stated above.

Anyways, after being scared shitless, my Boi Francis runs out of the tent straight into his dad who won him a Slingshot.

A Slingshot he trades later for water to a native indigenous girl called Rose, who he later befriends following their little meet cute.

This further leads to Francis leading them both into a Forest, in spite of Rose's warnings where he is attacked by the Entity in the form of the "Skeleton Man".

Rose therefore seems to be a part of the Shokopiwah people, who are aware of the Entity and actively fight against it and try to keep it at bay.

50 Years later, Shaw is trying to gain the entity for his own use, and trying to get there by any means necessary, and since Rose and her people very much want to avoid the Entity getting out, they send a cease and desist making their meet cute finally relevant.

Now all that remains to see is what the not losers club can prove with their photos and what happens when Rose inevitably learns of Shaw's deception.

Onto episode 4 I guess...

Rose will talk to the council.
