IT: Welcome to Derry Episode 2: The recurrent horror of life.

Ronnie sees a vision of her being "reborn"

Goddammit Hollywood execs, or whoever makes the decisions for stuff like this, why is it that in every horror based thing, there is always at least one scene relating to pregnancy and giving birth?

I mean I guess it is a universal fear that quite a lot of people have around the world... I mean a whole person is coming out of you...

Don't know about you but I would also freak out, not to mention the blood and guts that are bound to come with it especially if it is in a horror setting.

Well in this case the horror is more to do with being born than the birth itself.

Ronnie has an episode with the entity where she is first trapped in the bed with her bedsheet, which slowly turns into a flesh sack that begins to fill up with water.

Soon Ronnie is drowning and trying her hardest to claw her way out of it, only to burst out of it and see that the place she was trapped was her mother's womb, it appears from the words that the entity speaks that she probably killed her birth mother in childbirth... Or maybe I am looking too deep into it...

Candace Newmaker.

Now one thing that I am reminded of from this is the case of Candace Newmaker, who died on April 19 2000(Damn that's nine days after I was born...) from four unlicensed therapists trying to treat her reactive attachment disorder, through a process known as rebirthing.

She was wrapped in Flannel to represent a womb and then sitting on her to force her to "rebirth" herself by pushing her way out...

Considering she is ten and these are four adult therapists... yeah she died...

Thankfully Ronnie didn't do that.

No she just got Traumatized instead.

As if the fear of someone taking away her father wasn't enough on it's own, now she has the entity repeating that fear to her.

Ronnie and Lilly talk about the incident at the theatre and her dad.

And to add to the stack of problems, Lilly only told the police that her father definitely wasn't there, for fear of being sent back to Juniper Hill, she did not mention the monster at all.

And Ronnie immediately knows that this isn't going to be enough for the police.

Her fears are quickly realized as behind the scene the chief of police is being pressured to pin this on someone, and obviously racism exists.

So he tries to intimidate Lilly into giving him a name, and when that doesn't work he threatens to pin it on her and send her back to Juniper Hill, the one thing she has been trying to avoid.

And so, Ronnie's fears come true.

Ronnie screams at Lilly's house for having put her father in Jail again.

But speaking of Racism, there is a subplot of the military that I did not care to mention in the previous blog post, because the military is kinda always just there to show that the people in the world aren't stupid, and that there is indeed a response being put together, and maybe to randomly send in a nuke as a last minute third act scare.

But this time the plot actually becomes important, as not only does it tie into the themes of this episode, that being anti black racism, specifically directed at one Major Hanlon, who got attacked by a supposedly racist coworker last night, and smelling something fishy does his own investigation.

As he suspected the supposed perpetrator couldn't even handle the weapon used against him properly let alone actually attack him with it.

And so, in spite of the mutual hatred, Hanlon decides to report Masters's innocence to General Shaw, who it turns out was in on it the whole time, and was simply testing Hanlon's abilities post a brain injury so that he could reveal the actual problem to him.

General Shaw admits to Major Hanlon that he set him up as a test.

It turns out that the government has been aware of the entity the whole time, and call it "a secret weapon" that they now want to control because of course they do...

You know if it turns out that their tinkering made the entity more powerful, then I am going to loose it.

I told you guys from the start Pennywise the Dancing Clown is a govt Psyop.

They want to control the minds of everyone in America, Quick! Run! Hide! Fight!(oh no wait that's a shen bapiro movie lol.)

And for those of you saying that the real govt wouldn't do something like that, uh... yes they would, search the M.K.Ultra experiments.

And of course there is the usual fucking reason...

"To win the Cold War before the first missile is ever fired."

But the saddest part of this episode, if there is any is that, in spite of all her efforts, in spite of everything she did or didn't do, Lilly get's sent to Juniper Hill anyways.

This happens once again because the entity haunts her in the middle of a general store and makes her see a vision of her father in a Jar after trapping her from all four sides.

She smashes the Jar in an hope to get all of it to go away, but this only makes it worse as more jars smash making the deformed form of her father that asks her for a kiss, only for it all to go away and her to be revealed to be in the middle of the store with a broken pickle jar.

Lilly is found lying on the floor sobbing with a broken pickle Jar beside her after her encounter with the Entity in the General Store.

The entity is smart, it knows how to play all the angles, and it doesn't let it's victims escape, nor does it eat them too early without first "marinating" them in fear...

And the thing is, in the movies, we knew the ultimate fates of all the characters, we knew who would and wouldn't die thanks to the novel.

But with this, all the bets are off, this is like Game of thrones for the IT universe.

The first episode definitely proved the above point.

And the worst part of it all? We know it is going to end badly, for everyone involved, we know what Derry will become.

Lilly begs her mother to not send her to Juniper Hill mental Asylum again.

And I said all of this and I haven't even mentioned the fact that there is an opening song now!

And IT Welcome to Derry has ticked all the boxes of a creepy horror series in just two episode.

Bravo team!

The theme song lols.
