Percy Jackson Season 2 Episode 7... Well that was unexpected...

"[Kronos] I trust you to decide."

When it comes to making changes from the books to the adaptation this series has had a repeat case of something that initially seems bad, but oh shit they made it work actually.

Like for example, Sally knowing from the beginning who and what Tyson is and actively still choosing to adopt him as her own, at first I myself had a giant for why on my own forehead, but now it seems a lot more clearer.

You see Percy Jackson like harry potter was an experience first, and a story second, there is a very deliberate reason that for example in Harry Potter, the big threat always takes place towards the end of the year, and by the end of it all they still return home by the train.

Percy Jackson is very much intended to follow a very similar year by year formula, as such it tries quite hard to make its characters fit molds, that isn't like a criticism of the book series its an intentional choice by the author so that readers can use their headspace on what is really the meat of the material, the adventure itself.

As such the books didn't really focus on the emotional aspect of what the characters are going through, about what it means to be teenagers forced to carry big heavy weapons in order to defend yourself or have any chance at reaching the legal age of drinking...

All because at least one of your parents is a horny immortal who couldn't keep his trident to himself.

"He never could keep his trident to himself."

And most people are fifty/fifty on whether the show actually choosing to focus on this aspect is a good thing or a bad one, me personally, I think it is a good thing, because going through this aspect of everything really puts into perspective how messed up this all is...

And more importantly, it makes us realize why exactly Luke and his allies would take the side of Kronos, in spite of all the shit he puts them through.

Most demigods hate their parents and would rather die a painful death than live their whole lives in service of someone who doesn't even care enough to show up.

But in the end... the gods keep them alive...

It is basically the choice of picking the lesser of two evils.

Luke Confronts Kronos about the Fleece being able to bring Thalia back.

Luke and the others believe it to be Kronos, as that will at least bring a change in the Status Quo, and Anna and the others seen to realize that no matter what, Kronos is not the correct choice.

Who is correct? I don't really know, Kronos never actually got the chance to rule in the books... Percy got to him before that.

But for now, it seems he is very much willing to Abuse even those who worship him, Manipulate them, and do all it takes to meet his own ends.

You see in the books, it was the ultimate goal to have the fleece heal Thalia and not Kronos, that was an intentional misdirect that Luke allowed everyone to think towards, in reality, they wanted Thalia to come back and be extremely close to turning sixteen so that she becomes the person in the prophecy and not Percy.

It was an attempt to take control of the prophecy.

And no one, not Percy, not Anna was able to Figure out what the Fleece would actually do.

In fact that was the ending stinger, when they realized what they had done, this is something the Movie surprisingly got accurately.

Thalia in the Percy Jackson and the Sea of Monsters movie
Oh my, why does this photo look like one of those Cheesy YT thumbnail edits, when its an actual still from the movie???

There is no defending that movie though, they turned Kronos into a videogame villain even when that was only the second installment.

And I thought for a moment that is what they were going to do with this Kronos as well when they laid the Fleece on him...

Thank god Percy took it off in time.

Be thankful Kronos, this Percy is the true hero, he saved you from whatever the fuck this is.

Kronos the Video game boss.

But what about the rest of the cast? What about say Clarisse?

Well she once again proves that she was the correct choice for this quest two times, firstly because she from the beginning put the quest first and everything else second, I mean we may call her an asshole for it, but she did make the right decision.

Secondly, when she actually heard what the Demigods on Luke's side were planning to do, she let go of her original mission to save Annabeth from certain death.

Clarisse asks for Annabeth's approval.

I like how she asks for Anna's approval knowing that her original plan was actually in line with what Anna would have wanted.

Thankfully the roles have switched and Percy went after the Fleece with the invisibility cap.

Now here is the thing right, Kronos must have known a lot of what was going to happen, I believe, that even though in this version the Luke's original plan wasn't to heal Thalia's tree, Kronos's was.

He knows that Anna and Grover will stop at nothing to bring back their lost friend.

And even the part where he sends Luke to kill "the son of Poseidon" we don't know whether it is Tyson or Percy or what...

But this has to be another Manipulation to make Luke more agreeable to what he will do next(that's book spoilers so I am not saying).

We don't know whether he is planning or the fly or long game, Kronos is on no one's side but himself, he will very easily get those on his own side killed if it means his grand plan succeeds.

He even agrees to tell Percy the prophecy which he knows would give him power, but hey... long game right?

"[Kronos] Join our forces. Burn camp to the ground."

Here is what I think, this man has Contingencies in Contingencies, If camp burns down, he wins, if it doesn't, he wins, if the Fleece heals him, he wins, if it doesn't, he wins, no matter what he is almost always getting what he wants.

The most interesting aspect however is how in the end Clarisse and Percy somewhat make a truce and come to an understanding that they are both indispensable to the larger mission.

And Percy apologizes to Clarisse for being wrong...

That is something Book Percy would never do...

Not to mention Badass mom Sally joins in by the end, showing that no matter how powerful the Teenager, in the end one always relies on mom to solve all their issues.

Sally tells Percy to get in the Car.

The only thing that I wonder is, where is this going, we already know Thalia is returning... so... what's the big thing at the end???
