The Diplomat, an unexpected Delight(Spoilers!!!)

The Diplomat Poster.

I'll accept it, I honestly wasn't expecting much from this picture, partly because it seemed very contained, as in the premise and the trailer seemed to imply that most of the movie will take place in the same locations, and partly because it was John Abraham...

I mean, it's not exactly controversial to say that his acting is a little wooden at times...

But then still there was something there...

For whatever reason I still decided to go and give this movie a watch, I mean for a cinephile like me, what is the harm right?

And I am happy to report that I am glad I did, this movie is brilliant!!!

And somehow John's wooden acting plays into the role, J.P. Singh, the Diplomat that John plays in this movie and the name of the real life Diplomat who saved a real life person from this real situation, is someone who doesn't really show much emotion...

Shots from the Trailer.

Some might say this story is predictable, if they have read the case that inspired this movie, which like Duh!!

But as a set of Fresh eyes, I found this to be nothing less than a nuanced masterpiece, which does show the evil elements of a society but doesn't demonize a country outright, it shows things as they are.

It is as the trailer said, drop the India-Pakistan Angle, and look at this from a Humanitarian Angle...

This entire situation of extreme Manipulation and then selling into Sex Slavery is something that happens in todays Day and age and it happens in an ugly manner, in many many places around the world...

The whole movie happens, and then they play the real news clips of Uzma Ahmed the real life person Thanking Sushma Swaraj and J.P. Singh to bring her back to India back to her daughter, and then it hits you, all of this isn't some story, this happened.

And then every hard hitting scene comes back to you, there is a scene in which they show exactly what happened to Uzma when she was captured and this scene focuses only on her eyes as she is forced against the wall, and at the end a single tear drops from her eyes, and you immediately know what happened.

There are many scenes that will stay with you like this, like when the woman that helps Uzma initially, is made to run away from the place where all the women are kept as Sex Slaves essentially, and a kid shoots her in the back of the head as him and his father laugh...

This pair appears a lot shooting guns randomly, and then it hits you, they are literally doing Target practice on the women that somehow make it out and attempt to escape...

My only thing is why did they not Market this movie? And what in the world were they thinking releasing it during Holi? what box office will this movie have now???

I mean look at this review where the reviewer describes how he had to buy 6 tickets from his own pocket to even start the show, and it was early in the morning so no one was there...

As said in the above video, many of us complain that Bollywood only makes worthless action movies and they are senseless most of the times, and then sometimes movies like this come out and then the entire theatre is empty...

Movies like these deserve your attention so more are made... I would honestly say go watch this, even though that is not my Job here, but if this flops that is a harm to Quality film everywhere...

It doesn't even feel Bollywood, it's that good... And it is sad that I have to give the compliment that way, but you and I both know it is true...
