Gen V season 1 ended with Marie and her friends locked up in a room with no doors and then the boys season 4 happened which ended with Homelander graduating from proclaimed lord and saviour to actual lord and saviour with not an insignificant ammount of help from Sister Sage who upended democracy to see if she could.
Now in a world where all of them are not only absolutely hated for doing exactly what they were asked to do and saving the Vought higher ups, pretty much the entire world has gone crazy as Supes delude themselves into thinking that they are somehow the weaker ones, Jordan and Emma are suddenly released from Elmira, the facility where they were kept.
This would usually be a good thing except that Marie is long gone and Andre is more permanently gone.
Yeah so, Chance Perdomo who played one of the most pivotal characters in season one, the son of the ex Supe Polarity, i.e. Andre, died in real life. And the people behind the Boys decided to go the T'Challa in Black Panther Wakanda Forever route and Write him out of the story entirely.
Yes, And somehow, this leads to a better story than it would have if Chance were still here.
Obviously the writers behind the Boys would want to keep the massively important character around for their massively successful show and over all with the entire concept revolving around a university for Superheroes they were somehow going to break out and be back to college by the first few episodes.
So over all with everyone back where they left off, the stakes would be nil.
Here, with one of the main four gone, trying to imitate the one that left the others behind, it gives rise to a very important thing that the Boys has been lacking for a bit, Tension, and moral ambiguity.
You see after a while, the blood and the guts get a little... commonplace, and especially with Tek Knight last season it seems much of it is just for shallow shock value as opposed to in the initial seasons where it was all there but it played a role.
And that's not to say this season doesn't have shallow shock value, take for example the Supe with the butt powers... Why is that a sentence I just said?

Oh no not that one, that was the failed Supe who didn't listen Godolkein cause he didn't get there fast enough.

I mean yes, that's out of the Butt but that is more of a Location thing than a specific Butt thing...

Ahhhh.... There he is my sweet Summer Child...
What is the purpose of this person being there other than... Oh look Butt powers... Like he just randomly pops in out of nowhere as a running Gag.
And it's not wrong for a Mature show to have Messed up stuff just for the sake of it, the problem is, when all messed up stuff is just for the heck of it, it starts feeling like that Edgy teen at mic night who says they are a master of Satire, gets on Stage and then says the N word.
Nobody likes that kid.(Yes I stole that Joke from Pointless Hub.)
And overall, the fact that this season of Gen V has Andre missing, and his dad who people would most likely think was going to die alive, sets up an interesting Dynamic of, "I am not worthy to live, my son who was, is dead."
And this sets up Polarity to be the ultimate pain in the ass for Vought.
While initially he is a bit hesitant(that's an understatement) and just wants to drown his sorrows in alcohol, eventually he agrees to be as new Faculty at God U to investigate the New Dean Cipher.
Who was also at Elmira.

And as you can see Polarity takes no time to prove my point.
But anyways.
What do our merry band of chucklenuts get up to in these three episodes? Well, for one it turns out that Cate is actually a good friend and decides to help Jordan and Emma get out of prison once she gains enough favor.
Only Jordan and Emma because Marie escaped when she saw the chance and Chance Perdomo died... I mean Andre died when he tried to help all three of them escape.
There are a lot of feelings obviously given Cate and Sam are the reason they ended up in Elmira and Marie escaped and never came for the rest of them.
Currently she resides in Seedy Motels trying to lay off the grid as much as possible, a plan which spectacularly fails when she sees some starlighters being harassed by some hometeamers and she decides to go full savior complex on them leading to the serial Dog fucker Dogknott finding his bounty hunting way to her.
But if Dog fuc... I mean Dogknott can find his way to her then so can Starlight.

Unfortunately as much as one would want Annie January to come here solely out of the goodness of her heart but this is the world of the Boys and Starlight is unfortunately on the run, so if she is here, she needs something.
And that something is for Marie to go to God U and find out about something called Project Odessa.
Marie still doesn't go, no instead it takes her friends finding her, Cate trying to brain wash her, and nearly being killed and then them trying to escape from a potential murder charge to get her to go back to God U.
There she gets the same deal as Jordan and Emma to tell a rehearsed story about how they were falsely accused and they were just trying to free prosecuted Supes.
Marie's is worse, she has to give a super smiley speech about a "Mental Health Break" or something.
And its good she did because things over at God U are not good, it is a major plot point how the coffee shop manager is being harassed by students and Staff for being the only human amongst Supes and also because someone keeps putting up a Starlight banner near her shop.
Not to mention the X Ray Supe spends a little too long while "scanning" her.

And this then evolves into a plotline of a Secret Starlighter, Harper, the Cat-tailed roommate of Justine Garcia, wait what?

Ah yes, the free of cost Camerawoman for Justine Garcia whose literal defining quality was "cat tail" is now the secret renegade in God U.
And I say the defining quality 'was' Cat Tail because this time around the new defining quality is that she can copy powers for a time.
The cat tail is just an unfortunate bonus.
And she would go harder than just sticking posters but in her current condition she is one step away from a cat fetish only fans.
And how can Marie help with all that?
Well it is because she is the last Survivor of Project Odessa, which is supposed to be a Weapon, who knows for why but one thing is clear, if Marie uses this power correctly, a lot can be done.
In the mean time though, she and Jordan finally confess their true feelings to each other after Jordan initially hesitates unsure if they can keep up their side of the relationship.
And then they proceed to immediately throw a wrench in the works by confessing to being the real person who attacked Kate.

I mean it begins with a very sweet speech about how Andre's death needs to be honored and that he would want them to tell the truth or that they should tell the truth to honor his memory...
Well I am sorry but the best way to honor his memory is to make sure the people who did this to him are brought to justice... But what do I know?
You know Jordan, Marie may have a point about you.

Oh no wait that was Jordan making the same point about Marie...
Damn, they really are made for each other.
But what I want to focus on is the fact that Jordan would probably never have confessed their feelings if not for the fact that their lives are literally going to go to shit at any moment, the world is fucking Turbulent.
And if it were not for a similar reason, Harper and Emma wouldn't have connected on both being Starlighters at God U.
And the strangest thing if the world righted itself at this point, then these relationships would probably last forever.
The important point is though the reason people often use the world being about to end as motivation is because everything is going to end... and over all Turbulent situations are just as likely to end relationships as they are to make new and strong ones.
It's kind of like being Drunk, the social barriers that usually keep us apart are down so people get closer faster, but at the same time, they get into fights easier.
I mean tavern brawls are a common trope for a reason.
