Jessica Jones season 1, Even the strong are victim to battles of the mind...(Spoilers!!!)

I am a private investigator

I'll admit it, I wasn't super chuffed about Jessica Jones, just like I wasn't super chuffed about Daredevil, I guess, partly because these two shows looked like second grade CW shows(to my untrained eye) and also because I just didn't think much of these heroes

Luke Cage I knew, like I said, I grew up with Ultimate spider man, and Luke Cage was a character in it, called power man.

But since the show was called Luke Cage and not Power Man, I was like, okay this isn't... and I hate saying this, big enough for me, not bombastic enough.

Even Daredevil I knew, because he had a cool costume, and because he too appeared in other media.

I guess now I understand why Kevin Feige and all other movie makers go after world ending threats, they are easy marketable, easily packable, Shows like Jessica Jones, Daredevil, Luke Cage, have a lot to keep people, but what do they have to pull people in?

Word of Mouth only works once a certain threshold is crossed...

Well clearly, a lot of people didn't feel this way, that is why these shows gained a fan following in the first place no?

Maybe it was the fanfare around the MCU, maybe not, who knows, Marvel back then definitely did a not so great job pushing these shows, not as good as it could have anyways, whether or not that was their fault or because these shows are difficult to Market who knows?

And the thing is their Ground level nature makes these shows amazing, When I was watching season 2 of Daredevil, I couldn't help but notice that the presence of the suit made the show different.

But in the back of the head, I thought maybe that's not it, and with born again, I think I can say it seems like definitely, a show having larger than life elements does not have to take away from the ground level elements if one does not let it.

And coming back to why I didn't like Jessica Jones, I just didn't get her... Iron Fist I got because of Ultimate spider man again, Luke Cage as well, Daredevil as well, and since I had prior connections to these characters, I was like... another strong person? Really, I mean all of them can punch hard...

Cheating is good for business says Jessica

Which is why this beginning was so surprising, so... this is a Noir show? Okay... then I thought okay then Jessica must be the Black widow/Hawkeye of the Group called the Defenders, you know a normal person in a group of superpowered people, except I heard in Daredevil season 2 that she is a Vigilante... of sorts... so she must have some abilities?

I'll tell you what she doesn't have, a secret Identity, and neither does Luke Cage, I mean he did in Ultimate spider man, but there his secret Identity was a pair of Sunglasses, really big ones, but, just Sunglasses.

Power Man/Luke Cage in the Ultimate Spider man Cartoon

Bro is literally reverse superman, Superman uses glasses to disguise as Clark Kent, Luke Cage uses sun Glasses to disguise as power man.

I also knew Luke cage from the game Web of Shadows, where he is once again, just Luke Cage, you know maybe this power man stuff is just for this show, can't say didn't check yet.

You know this Blog Post about Jessica Jones has a surprising amount of Luke Cage inside it.

Just like both the show and the person Jessica Jones got a surprising amount of Luke Cage inside them...

Yeah that was a terrible joke...

You let me be inside you.

Was this part deliberate, was it a happy accident? Is this joke combined with my disbelief in the one female character of the Defenders a sign of latent Sexism?

I don't know...

But that is okay...

None of us are as bad as Killgrave.

You see in a sense Killgrave is the best possible villain Jessica Jones as a show could ask for, he is a mind control super villain, he is a perfect representation of the no one is who they seem trope.

Is the random person trying to kill you just trying to kill you? Or has he been Killgraved?

Is the person who cares for you actually caring for you? Or has he been Killgraved??

We don't know, are you Killgraved?

Well Jessica isn't because she became immune the last time she got Killgraved.

Jessica escapes from Killgrave.

And Immune is the right word, Because Killgrave is a virus, a Virus that he releases to control the minds of those around him, my theory is being exposes to this virus for so long constantly and on a daily basis, and being as strong as she is, Jessica developed antibodies to fight the virus.

But before we get to killgrave, in order to prove the point that not everyone is killgrave, the second case Jessica gets right after the first one which leads her to Hope Shlottman, whom I shall forever know as starlight, sorry marvel I watched the boys first...

Hope is one of the first on screen victims of Killgrave, she is a means to show the power he can have over people.

And he can wear many masks... Like the devil... Yeah I had to bring Daredevil in I'm sorry...

But the very next case being a non Killgrave thing, takes us away from the classic trope that many detective shows fall prey to, like for eg sherlock, where every case is somehow Moriarity... because of course he is...

No instead in this case it is an anti "gifted" fanatic who blames the avengers and others like them for their pain, Yeah the X - Men couldn't arrive sooner...

You're not Gifted, You're a freak.
Damn, I guess someone awoke their inner aunt Petunia(Harry Potter anyone?)

Yeah every time someone says gifted, I am not the only one who thinks back to the Gifted right?

Lorna Deane, Magneto's daughter...

Polaris...

Yeah I have not seen the show but the clips I have seen have been enough to leave an impression...

I am kinda sad that it ended, and is so unknown, Even though I never properly saw it... and that alone should say a lot about this show...

The fact thjat that is also X men related isn't lost on me...

TV Show: The Gifted, Poster.
Maybe I'll watch this next who knows? Bring this back Marvel, BRING THIS BACK!!!(Like Daredevil Born again...)

And Maybe Marvel will bring this back as well, In the X Men era, which is after Doomsday and secret wars from what I have heard...

But like I said, the very first case not being about Killgrave gives us a shaky ground to rely upon, because we know he is out there, we know he is coming, but we don't know where, is he an old Lady, is he a cop acting Cop like.

IS HE A CHILD??

Killgrave controls an 8 and a half year old child.
Yes Exactly Jessica...

But unlike Killgrave I happen to know that this isn't all about Killgrave, This is about more than that, it is about the relationships that Jessica forms with those around her, and about the Dark underbellies of Human Relationships in general.

For example, the annoying couple upstairs who are always fighting? Well they ain't a couple they are actually Brother and Sister, the annoying drug addict next door? SIKE!!! He is a Killgrave Spy.

You think Luke and Jessica have a nice loving relationship? Well... It was never nice and loving to begin with the two just found another superpowered being and just decided to bone each other with their powers...

But it did turn out to be great later, until you realize that the reason that She was even close to Luke was because she was stalking him after she killed his wife under the influence of Killgrave.

Guilt, the best thing to base a relationship on I'd say...

But Then Luke Forgives her and he sees Killgrave for who he is and it's all amazing and stuff except SIKE!!! Luke is still under Killgrave's control...

Turns out Killgrave was controlling Luke Cage.

Killgrave controlled a Cop to kill Patricia Walker after she insulted him on live radio?

Well you would expect this guy to... actually why would you expect anything from this guy he could just be a regular dude and never show up again,

He could be like Hope Shlottman, who kills herself to make it easier for Jessica who is the only one immune to Killgrave to kill him.

Or he could be like any of the other Killgrave victims who simply show up in a support group, but no show up he does, and properly.

To sleep with apologize and date Patricia walker... not in that order...

But then he turns out to be the villain Nuke from comics who had been a part of the Weapons Plus program...

The Super Villain Nuke wants a red pill but gets only blues and whites.

Okay that took a turn...

The point is, even in terms of the interpersonal relationships this show keeps you on your toes, as a good mystery show should...

All of this and much more make Jessica Jones stand out as one of my favorite Marvel shows, that's right, I said it...

The one I thought the least of is now my favorite, Now what of Luke Cage and Iron Fist?

I hear Iron Fist isn't great, and probably neither is the Defenders?

I guess I shall reserve Judgement.

Iron Fist, Danny rand in his mask and hoody outfit.

But this show proves one thing, Marvel should be thankful Killgrave is so Self obsessed, as no matter how strong the hero, if they aren't immune to Killgrave, they will become a dancing monkey.

That is if they are lucky and if they are somehow immune, He will play mind games and isolate them.

The main power of Killgrave isn't his mind control, as it is shown when he is inside the medical room that neutralizes his powers, it's the fact that he is a master manipulator.

So much that he convinces Jeri Hogarth(Who I shall call marvel's Trinity as she is played by Carrie Anne Moss) to set him free and that he has her best interests, somehow...

No matter how strong or immune, no one is safe from one who plays mind games like that.

And the Strangest thing, or the most interesting thing, is that he does all of this, as some demented declaration of love towards the one person who can possibly dominate him because she is the only one immune to him, Jessica Jones.

It is as they say, Narcissists will go to any lengths to control the one's that escape their control, they will be drawn towards them like flies and will fight wars for them, cause in a strange way, Narcissists want someone to take control over them, but then give them everything they want...

In other words they want everyone to choose what they like of their own free will...

In a sense they are just children who never grew up

Killgrave in the medical room

Think of it like that and Killgrave is just a tragic child who never grew up because the experiments done on him made it impossible for people to say no to him, he has to carefully choose words so he doesn't accidentally command someone off a roof or something.

Sure he is entitled, but he is also lonely.

Because it is Lonely at the top.

Take it from Homelander and Conquest.

Homelander And Conquest describe how isolated they feel due to their immense power and superiority to everyone else in their respective races...
Physical or Psychological, Power can be isolating
