Michael: I don't think I have the opinion you expect.

Poster.

I watched this for one reason and one reason only: I liked Bohemian Rhapsody, and it's on the fucking poster.

That movie really got me into this whole Idea of Musical Biopics.

Before that, idk, I didn't really dig the whole Idea of making movies about real people, especially because I myself am an author and I don't really like constraints on my stories.

And when it comes to real people it goes without saying that there will be constraints, and as this movie showed me it is not just in the sense of showing respect to certain events and taking care around the societal impact you could have, it is also if some of the people happen to be alive and kicking, they might influence the movie in ways that you don't expect or like.

And then what of the audience, they don't know or care about the behind the scenes drama, as far as they are concerned, so they are bound to assume all sorts of things, and who knows maybe there were.

And while I have been known to dabble in MJ from time to time I did not know that much about his background or anything outside his music other than that one time his nose fell off apparently...

So obviously I am the perfect man to review this film.

Critics will tell you its sugar coated I will tell you I just found it relatable.

Ah yes thank you mr. Joe, what a delightful insight you got into the way this world works fs fs.

Now I tried you know, I tried going through all the things that you could find online and offline about what really happened in his life, why certain people really hate this movie, wtf are the allegations that Michael apparently received and is still receiving seventeen years after his death.

Family and friends sit around a dinner table in a dim kitchen, listening intently. Subtitle reads: you’re either a winner or you’re a loser.

Ah yes, thank you joe for the extremely useful insight into life Mr. Joe.

Now I tried guys, I tried rushing through all of the controversy and history of everything and seeing what was and wasn't sugar coated and what not until... I realised that that is perhaps more disrespectful than leaving it alone entirely and focusing on what I found in the movie instead.

And on top of that, I find it very interesting that every mainstream news source suddenly decided to jump on a dead African American Man's pedophilia accusations which are to the best of my knowledge still unproven, and when a dead white man(who definitely did not kill himself) had allegations against him and got his files released exposing so many people in places of Power....

Everyone just moved on.

Again I am not saying he didn't do it, believe me I am very well aware of how certain bad actors who happen to belong to groups that are historically socio economically Challenged use their being part of said group to pull attention away from their actual bad behaviour.

Anyone remember O.J Simpson?

O.J. Simpson and his famous black gloves

Oh yeah no, he definitely didnt do it right guys, because the glove didn't fit.

Right?

Yeah

Okay.

Sorry,

Wrong example.

But yeah my point is I cannot just dismiss all that stuff of course, but I can say that the only thing about it that has appeared on my feed is Macaulay Culkin getting mad about people wanting him to lie and pin bad shit on michael.

Side-by-side portraits of Macaulay Culkin and Michael Jackson over bold text denying Jackson harmed him on a farm.

So while I ruminate on this home alone, I think it is safe for me to move on to what I actually want to talk about.

Michael's rough childhood and how he escaped from it.

You see one thing that this movie did a well job portraying is the complicated relationship that most children of parents like Joe have with parents like Joe.

I mean for one, you obviously want to acknowledge the fact that without all of the things he did you probably wouldn't be here.

But obviously, one right does not justify another wrong.

People like Joe want to live vicariously through their children and want to claim all of their success for the self.

Everything you have is because of me.

And the strange thing is, you struggle with maintaining a healthy boundary as the things you should do just because they are your parents, slip easily into excessive control and loss of individuality.

All of your success must belong to the family, and if you have something you must share it with your brothers.

Fuck their own image I guess.

The Jackson 5

Also another thing, Michael Jackson had Vitiligo, and because of that, by the end of it all his skin was almost entirely white.

And so most people my age don't even know that he was African American, and for those who know, they were fed a story that Michael just wanted to "look white" which even I believed until recently like right the day before the movie in fact when someone told me that he had Vitiligo.

In fact I see people even spouting this non-sense now.

So that was a fucking lie.

But he was... African American and for all things considered, it definitely showed he struggle of an African American artist back in the 60s to the 80s.

And how big of a deal such a success was for everyone and yet, how reluctant people were to play his music on places like MTV.

On the whole I definitely recommend this to someone suffering from bad parents as this is the story of someone who broke free of bad parenting multiple times and had a variety of pets and... if you believe the comments beneath the Macaulay Culkin Post he tried his best to build a sanctuary for those who suffered similarly to him.
