The Amazing Spider-Man 2, when you start going too Grand.

His BIGGEST FIGHT! I still remember back in 2013 and 2014, this was the main Tagline that was used to market this movie as the Posters showed Spider-Man standing in front of The Rhino, Electro and The Green Goblin dwarfed by their team up, teasing an obvious potential Sinister Six team up in the future, which it is Criminal that that hasn't happened yet, but it is not due to lack of Trying...
In fact one would Argue that Sony has been trying to make that happen a bit too hard, and that is mainly the problem...
I mean 2014 was early Post Avengers Era, and everyone and their mother was trying to make their own Cinematic Universe, and Sony... was trying to do the same with its Villains...
They still Tried it...
It... It wasn't great...

Yeah I mean, thank god in this re release Marathon they aren't re releasing the "Has to Do with Spider-Man, I Think." Films, because that would be true Torture, but I do plan to get around to them someday, who knows... Maybe Sony will re release Morbius again...
Do it Sony...
Do it for the Memes...

I mean if I agree with IGN, you know there's an issue...
Regardless, this was 2014, Sony's Major Crimes(Like letting go of Andrew Garfield) were yet to come.
And for all intents and Purposes The Amazing Spider-Man was a decent film, even though many die hard fans shit on it as they always do... calling it just an attempt to keep a license... which it probably was... that doesn't mean it wasn't good... but okay...
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 had the exact same issue that Spider-Man 3 did, way too many plot lines, I mean for one... Harry pretty much didn't exist in the first film, so selling me on this friendship that's suddenly brought to my face out of nowhere is a little hard, but sure Sony, I'll bite...
Norman Osborne has the Green Goblin Disease... or Retro-Viral Hyperplasia, whatever the Fuck that is...
And Harry gets it from him...

Well okay, That was set up in the previous film, and so was the whole Plot about Captain Stacy not wanting Peter to be with Gwen, and I would say he followed that promise swimmingly...

You see, that's the thing with this movie, there are so many moments in it that make me re think classifying it as a bad movie, but then these moments add up to something that is less than the sum of the whole... and that is the issue...
Put very straight, I don't think Harry should have begun dying just yet, I think he should have spent this movie just being Peter's friend, and while he would still help electro out of Prison, it would be in a more subtle way and it would be to keep his position at the Company and not to cure his illness, Peter would spend this whole movie thinking about Gwen's death and seeing Captain Stacy but by the end when he sees that she is quite capable in her self, he will Relax a bit...
Gwen's death should have been in a separate movie.
Electro should have been the primary antagonist with Rhino still being there at the end, we think Max dies, but he doesn't he simply gets dispersed or something and in the Next movie, Harry becomes the Goblin, this way, we get more time to breathe and more time to follow the plot lines that are being established...
But speaking of Grand moments, there is simply only one reason I ever got into EDM(Electronic Dance Music) and that is due to this scene.

I mean come on, even the Haters have to agree this was awesome as fuck.
It truly showed how powerful some of Spidey's villains had become, and with Spidey having technological and not organic Web Shooters this time, Electro can short them, keeping the Tradition of the Hero Struggling with his powers in the second movie alive somewhat even here.
Not entirely though.
What Peter Really struggles with is his relationship...
And while I get it, the entire time I am screaming only one thing at the screen...
My dearest Peter, your girlfriends don't get kidnapped by Villains because they are with you, they get kidnapped because you care for them... and if you break up... will that really stop?
Will you not still get hurt if they die?
So the Villain's motivation is still very much present, except now, two people are fucking unhappy... amazing.
I guess logic and common sense get thrown out of the window when emotions are involved.
Truly insomniac's Mary Jane is the right approach where Peter gives her Gadgets, as well as she picks up her own stuff to make herself more capable... like really, you don't get to choose who chooses you dude, the only thing you can choose is whether you reciprocate, you don't choose for other people...
So I completely understand Gwen here NGL.

And also, if you will try and be friends later... doesn't that kill the point?
What you think a Villain wont go after your friends?
Ooohh but he will go after his girlfriend first, but one small problem...
The Fucker wont Date anyone because he is afraid to hurt them...
So...
Once again, the problem persists... you just feel miserable about it...
Sure! Captain Stacy, which I mean asking that of Peter was a shitty thing in the first place, but okay... but like Gwen Says, not his choice!
Whatever, I need to move on from this or I will have an aneurism, like imagine if Peter spent all this time teaching Gwen how to defend herself instead of moaning, who knows, maybe she wouldn't have died...
I mean I don't know how you defend yourself against Gravity but... A WEB SHOOTER! Give her one of those you idiot!
You can make two, you can make more.
God given how emotional this scene is, shit really falls apart when you think about it doesn't it?

But don't worry bro got his redemption in No way home, which btw, Holland's peter still doesn't give a Web shooter to MJ.
What are afraid of Copyright infringement?
Or are you afraid they can't conceal it well enough?
Which one is it Peter?
But regardless, Electro...
Right they tried to set up this somewhat of a misunderstood genius who is a bit of a loner and a bit of a creep, because he keeps spiderman posters or something... and then takes a throw away line to heart...
When really all he wanted was to be seen...
Thing is right... he is actually a great villain, but the problem is, they had to go out of their way and make him sing itsy bitsy spider with the electrical coils...

Also why copy the Green Goblin?
I swear I don't mean to be this negative, it's just when I start to think about it, so many things just fall apart...
And then we get to the Green Goblin, I mean Bro pretty much just comes in kills Gwen just because and peaces...
What... Like there is a Final Battle after the Final Battle, it feels so tacked on, like the makers were afraid they wouldn't get a third film and boy did they not.
There was a tease for the Sinister Six in this movie just as in the last one, and that's all there was to it, who was the man in the hat? who the fuck knows... Maybe Doc Ock... he's the only possible candidate though I don't remember him being creepy creeperson ever, but okay...

Also Alistair Smythe is present in this film even though if you played the first tie in game that tales place after the events of the first movie, he pretty much dies... but I don't believe that is canon...
Whatever...
The one plot line which I liked and yet somehow feels so tacked on that I literally cannot find a way to segue into it other than just bringing it up randomly is the plot about Pete's parents, I honestly did and still do find the mystery compelling, and I liked that for once a Spider-franchise was actually addressing where those two went.
And it turns out that they were the reason peter is the only successful cross species, Richard Parker made sure only his bloodline could ever be bitten successfully...
And that really is something.
Shame it had to be over shadowed with all the other bullshit, and the beginning scene didn't exactly tell us something we didn't know from the previous film so there's that.

Amazing Spider Man 2 everyone, a movie with so many amazing things that somehow adds up to be less than the sum of it's parts and yet somehow is not as bad as Morbius, and I mean when I was watching it in the theatres, nostalgia certainly helped my little mind ngl.
There was supposedly a deleted scene of Pete's dad still being alive, and I am like fifty fifty on if that should have been in here... like it's one more thing to add to this shit load of things, but also... it's some closure no?
Who knows, all I know is the killer at the start got Final Destinationed from a plane.

Really dude, what did you expect? You killed the pilot before doing the deed...
Anyways, all things considered, the ending is once again quite sweet, in spite of Rhino once again being super tacked on.
Spidey coming in and once again saving a brave kid and facing New York's troubles once again is a good ending, too sad it was also a tease from the trailers...
All the trailers end here and so does the movie.
Come on Sony, Do better.

This movie was too grand, and that made it fail, and that is surprisingly in theme with peter's Journey as he also went too grand took too much on and then failed.
