The Amazing Spider-Man, a more accurate Spidey?

Please go to sleep Aunt May...

The Amazing Spider-Man is a take on Spidey that is not really liked by a lot of people, "he is too attractive!" "Too Confident!" "Too Cool!"

And all I can think of is... He... he kind of is...

Peter Parker is not the average Timid bullied kid, more often than not he gets bullied for being stubborn on his ideals or being too good with his grades or having a girlfriend that someone else wanted, Bullies like Flash don't pick on him cause he is the school weirdo, they are Jealous of him! And take it out the only way they can on someone they perceive to be physically weaker.

Peter Parker is not a good person, he wants his bullies to suffer just like he does, he would love to beat up on others just like they do on him, in his mind everything he wants goes to the bullies and that is the only way he can get what he wants, the only thing, and I mean the only thing keeping him in check is uncle Ben's dying words to him.

Peter's actions caused his death, perhaps not directly but he died trying to do what Peter could have done much more easily and with probably a lot less collateral damage, it is out of respect for his memory and for the fear of such tragedies repeating that he fights evil.

On a whole though, Peter Parker is a Flirty Trickster, and if we are talking on attractiveness...

Let us go over his list of Girlfriends:-

1) Gwendolyn Stacy

Gwen Stacy

2)Betty Brant(yes, the one who is J Jonah's assistant in the original Spider-Man Trilogy)

Betty Brant

3) Carlie Cooper Forensics Expert for the NYPD and the alter Ego to "Monster"

Carlie Cooper/Monster

4)Kitty Pryde(Yes the Mutant)(I guess mostly in the ultimate universe though)

Kitty Pryde.

5) Mary Jane Watson(everyone knows her I guess)

Mary Jane Watson.

6) Anna Maria Marconi(that was during the time Doc Ock was in Peter's body, so I don't know if that counts exactly???)

Anna Maria Marconi

7) Black Cat/Felicia Hardy (I just realized that she has never had a good live action adaptation, or any adaptation if you don't count Felicia from Amazing Spider-Man 2...) Although she didn't really like the man behind the mask, she was into role play I believe... who knows...

Black Cat(Felicia Hardy)

8) Debra Whitman an often Forgotten love interest during his graduate days.

Debra Whitman.

9)Jill Stacy.... Did Peter Bang his dead girlfriends cousin? Wtf?

Jill Stacy(Gwen Stacy's Cousin)

10) Carol Danvers.... Carol he is A KID YOU ARE MORE THAN HALF A CENTURY OLD WHAT THE FU...

Captain Marvel(Carol Danvers)
Sure, that works too I guess...

11)Rogue(never official but she tried to kiss him once)

Rogue(X-Men)

12) Silver Sable (when she isn't trying to kill him I guess...)

Silver Sable.

13)Emma Frost? For some reason?

Emma Frost.

14) Sarah Rushman A.K.A. Marrow...

Sarah Rushman(Marrow)

15) Cindy Moon A.K.A. Silk, another Spider Hero who actually got bit by the same spider that Peter Got bit by, and as a result they are attracted on like a chemical level... they can't help themselves even if they are angry at each other... So I doubt that counts either...

Cindy Moon(Silk/Spider-Silk)

16)Bobbi Morse or Mocking Bird(Hawkeye has some questions for Peter)

Bobbi Morse(Moking Bird/Agent 19)

17) Glory Grant, Surprisingly not related to Betty but she is a Super-Model...

Glory Grant(Supermodel)

18) Liz Allan(That never really worked out though did it?)

Liz Allan.

19) Sophia Sanduval, mutant known as Chat who can communicate with animals... Okay I see why that worked out... she is also Emma Frost's Best Friend... amazing...

Sophia Sanduval

20)Lian Tang... who... was a designer at Parker Industries... Okay... HR Violation...

Lian Tang.

I believe I have made my point...

Peter is actually pretty confident most of the times, the Timid boy act is just a disguise...

So In my opinion not only is this Peter more accurate to the Comic book Peter, what he does with his powers is far more realistic to an average high school student... who suddenly became super strong in a single day and then lost his only Father Figure...

Peter in his makeshift Spider-Man costume

He is not being a hero, he is taking out his anger on every single person who even remotely resembles his Uncle's killer...

In a sense Captain Stacy is right...

Captain Stacy calls Spider-Man an Anarchist.

But that is where my issues with the movie begin... or do they?

You see, Captain Stacy in the comics is actually quite pro Spider-Man, one of the main reasons he was killed by the comics writers and later Gwen was because of how comforting of a presence he was for Spidey

Truly another father Figure...

Captain Stacy dies in the comics.

Yes, even in the comics, he initially distrusts Spidey but his stance flips completely once he learns who is behind the mask, and while yes, we see some semblance of that in the movie towards the end, but it wasn't there for nearly long enough, I guess tragedy had to strike, and another thing is that, Stacy never asked Peter to leave his daughter, he wanted what's best for them both...

But I guess once again, they needed a reason for him to be angsty all the time...

Captain Stacy asks peter to leave Gwen out of it.

Well things happen I guess...

But we are getting ahead of ourselves, one other aspect that they improved upon in this movie, is Gwen Stacy, unlike Mary Jane in the previous movies, she is actually a comforting and supportive presence for Peter, she is there when he needs her and communicates everything very clearly.

She cleans his wounds when he is hurt, is probably smarter than him, and challenges him in all the right ways, their on screen chemistry is honestly amazing to watch, and just like Kirsten Dunst and Toby Maguire their actors did date in real life...

Gwen and Peter's chemistry in the movies

And... I guess it's refreshing to watch the man who sacrifices infinitely for everyone else have at least a moment of happiness... and be satisfied

But speaking of Happiness and satisfaction, one person who definitely resents his life is Doctor Curtis Connors.

Him and Peter's father were really close prior to his death, but after his death, he never once reached out to their family or check up on Peter.

And while he does have a human enough reason for that, it shows a pattern that is later exasperated by the insanity caused by the Lizard Serum...

Basically when Richard Parker died, he took all of his research with him and Curtis felt abandoned, as he got not even a copy of what they did together, and being left to his own vices he became angry and resentful and kept his distance...

Curtis Connors apologizes for abandoning Peter.

Curt Connors is tasked with recreating what Richard did with his spiders but for Norman Osborn so that, his life can be saved, why that is needed is a later story.

With Peter's help he is able to overcome the last remaining hurdle and finally achieve perfect results in both Simulation and Practical testing, but only on a Rat.

Oscorp being the shady company it is uses Irfan Khan's(May he rest in peace) Rajit Ratha to fire Curt for refusing to do early Human Trials without proper safety precautions...

I mean ultimately the research does belong to them doesn't it?

In desperation Curt injects himself with the Formula and is finally able to regrow his lost arm...

He then books a cab initially intending to inform Ratha of his successful Human Trial but as the Lizard takes over, so does his rage and he causes a huge incident on the bridge that Peter has to step in to stop.

Peter/Spider-Man helps a kid named Jack out of a burning car hanging off a bridge.

The Lizard causes a lot of Collateral Damage and this also leads to my second most favorite scene... well actually it's in competition...

The scene where Peter helps a small boy climb out of a car as it burns due to the fuel dripping onto the exposed headlights, gives up his mask and tells him to wear it for confidence and places himself directly in danger without a care for his life...

And then, only then, after giving this little kid to his father, giving him the one thing he could never really have, does he get to claim his name for the first time.

Peter finally calls himself Spider-Man.

Peter's journey is tragic, it is filled with disappointment and failure and yet he keeps climbing back up...

That is who he is...

But the one thing that so many people miss or often misrepresent about Spider-Man is that no matter what he is not alone, the ordinary people of New York, the every day people are touched by what he gives for them without asking for anything in return, and so when he once again steps in where no one dares, in order to do the thing only he can...

New York Steps in, I mean there was some of that in the original Spider-Man films, but that was a lot more... dare I say cartoony and over the top...

Here it feels more realistic... and yet somehow far more Grand...

You see throwing things at Green Goblin as he harasses Spidey and threatens to kill children actually takes a lot of courage, and is somehow not very imaginative...

But a bunch of Crane operators raising their cranes as the police clear the roads... well people are going out of their way but... really they are just doing their jobs...

What they do everyday... and somehow all of this helps Spider-Man in a way perhaps nothing else could...

And he walks towards Danger once again with a misfired bullet in his leg, a wound he closes with his webs and he swings off to stop the Lizard...

Helicopter Shines a Light on Spider-Man as he gets ready to go and face the Lizard.

Not to mention, the Symbolism of the Helicopter's light shining on him is amazing...

Unfortunately then Captains Stacey dies, he breaks up with Gwen, but not really because apparently broken promises are the best kind?

Who knows...

One thing I do know is that regardless of what anyone says, this version of Spider-Man was the one I grew up with and is in the truest sense of the word... amazing.
