The Karate Kid Part 2, the perfect Sequel to a movie that I thought couldn't have one.(Spoilers!!!)

Daniel and Kumiko almost kiss

So for whatever strange reason, Netflix decided to stop it's Karate Kid collection at the original Karate Kid and not have parts one and two which is very inconvenient for me, but okay fine, we will play ball with Amazon Prime, I mean it's not like I already subscribe to them to watch shows like the Boys and Invincible and I am literally just being a pouty child because I don't know how else to start this article, but whatever.

The Karate Kid was a very self contained movie, I personally thought that there was just the one, I mean even in the reboot what do you actually do to continue the story? And I mean the reboot was released in the all time golden age of sequels and reboots I mean the avengers was about to come out, the Dark Knight and Spider man trilogies alongside the X men trilogy had already proven the great money making potential in franchises and still the reboot didn't try to continue the story.

So when I learnt that there was an original I naturally assumed there ain't no sequel, except, it's called the Karate kid Trilogy, and so, here we are, the Karate Kid part 2.

And the existence of this movie proves something incredible, if you have a passion and a love for what you are doing, the shortcomings really couldn't matter, like for one this movie is coming off of the tails of what is supposedly a perfect ending for many people, it can't really just rehash the last movie without being criticized and there wasn't much of a set up for a sequel anyways.

Not to mention that one of the main motivations for Daniel in the previous movie could not be present in this movie as Elizabeth Shue had returned to Harvard and her schedule was not compatible with the filming of the movie, so Daniel's relationship with Ali is just out the window, and she fell in love with a student from UCLA after the prom dance going to shit.

And the main plot of this movie that they did come up with probably wouldn't have accommodated her anyways, besides, Miyagi and Daniel are the only characters who carry over from the last movie, even the location is different.

And the previous movie didn't really imply any form of past for Mr. Miyagi knowing which wouldn't ruin the character because a part of Mr. Miyagi's appeal is his mystery.

Regardless, somehow, the plot plays into everything so well, that it really feels like a miracle.

Miyagi meets Yuki and his father while Kumiko and Daniel watch.

Mr. Miyagi helped Daniel in the previous movie to reach his destiny, in this movie, the rules are reversed, which only makes sense, and one would think what would a guy like Mr. Miyagi need who seems to be old, wise and seemingly has it all figured out?

Well this movie says differently, apparently it really is never too late for one to grow, even at Mr. Miyagi's age.

You see Mr. Miyagi had a lover once, and he left her because she was arranged by her family to his best friend Sato, who had then challenged Miyagi to a duel to the death to win over Yukie, he didn't want to fight so he left.

On top of all this, Miyagi's dad trained them both and is now dying, he learns all this because of a letter from Yukie and so is forced to return to his home in the fishing village of Okinawa in Japan.

Since Daniel is done with his school and his mom has gone to Fresno she allows him to first stay with Mr. Miyagi and then to go to Okinawa with him as this is someone who has clearly helped them a lot.

Romantic drama never gets old and so once Miyagi and Daniel return to Okinawa, they are greeted by Chozen Toguchi who is Sato's nephew who also has now inherited his father's wealth and is now the richest person in Okinawa.

Sato, still inundated by his hate, challenges Miyagi once again, to the death.

To complicate matters further we learn that Sato's hatred isn't just because Miyagi ran away all those years ago, it is really because after Miyagi ran, Yuki decided not to get married and so Sato possibly lost not only his honour but his marriage, and it appears he never got over it either which is why he is using his nephew and not his son.

Of course the last part is pure speculation, the movie says nothing on this front.

However eventually Mr. Miyagi's father dies and to honour the death of his master Sato gives Miyagi three days to mourn until their fight or he destroys the whole village.

Miyagi says he has already won

Meanwhile! Since ol Danny boi is single again, and there is a new relationship in town, this time we have Kumiko, who is an O bon dancer and also the niece of Sato.

This is clearly a contrast to Chozen and Sato who are leading by hate.

I have to say, even though I particularly hated that they wrote Ali out so unceremoniously, I do like Kumiko better than Ali, for one, she does not seem to have that much of a bad boy problem as Ali, which is now set in stone because of the clumsy rewrite and secondly she is good with kids, you want to make a character more likeable? Make them good with kids or some type of animal.

And she is much sweeter than Ali believe it or not.

And besides high school relationships often do end up in the dump pretty soon don't they?

But it is while having a pivotal moment in this relationship that the climax of this movie begins to take shape as the town is hit with a massive storm and pretty much everything goes to shit, for one, Chozen and Sato are present in the town, and after a house falls on Sato, Chozen presumes him dead.

However he is not, and Miyagi goes to save him, secondly, a little kid was ringing the alarm bell for everyone to get in the storm shelter but she gets stuck, which like, whoever sent her up there is a genius...

Sarcasm aside, Daniel goes to save her and Chozen is asked by Sato to help him but he refuses due to fear, Sato and Miyagi help him once he gets stuck with the girl and Sato tells Chozen to consider him dead after this act.

Sato is Angry at Chozen

Chozen runs and leaves the shelter, meanwhile the rivalry between Sato and Miyagi is ended and Sato allows the O-Bon festival Dance to take place in the mansion.

I am sure this is simply a happy ending and nothing will go wro... Oh no Chozen is here and he has kidnapped Kumiko, literally no one saw that coming.

It seems that Chozen, is Chosen to be the most hated character in the movie, and then we have the obligatory third act Karate fight, and obviously Daniel wins and the DAY IS SAVED!!!! YAYYYY!!!!

Chozen kidnaps Kumiko

Now we can move onto Legends, because yes, this is the last movie I watched before Legends.
