Andor Season 2 first three episodes, an introduction to the hell everyone is in.(Spoilers!!!)

Mon Mothma's daughter wishes her mom was drunk on her wedding.

Andor Season 2 has one job, lead up to the inevitable mission that will get it's main character killed, and lead to the destruction of the planet killer Death Star, that and setting up the early beginnings of the Rebel alliance.

So how does it start doing that?

Here on this side of the internet, the ones who actually liked season one of Andor, the most impressive part of Andor was the way it set up it's atmosphere and the way it built tension.

For example, the episodes begin with Cassian searching for His sister in a brothel of all places, in a company controlled town, it is clear from the beginning that whoever this person is, their life isn't easy, and then when Cassian leaves the brothel he is caught by two police officers looking to abuse their power and is forced to kill him.

Small moments like this, and the fact that Andor was in Imperial captivity for a petty no meaning crime and working tirelessly in an imperial unpaid labor camp to create the one weapon that will eventually be his and the larger Galaxy's downfall while a top ranking Imperial Security officer was searching tirelessly for him for a crime that was massively overplayed due to the empire's own incompetence highlight what it was like to live under the Tyranical rule of the empire.

Andor explains how he steals from the Empire

Andor was initially called on by Luthen Rael to steal a ridiculously large sum of money from the Empire.

This move was a necessary step in building up the Rebellion not because they needed money, but because Luthen is an accelerationist.

He believes that the empire needs to be goaded into escalating so that the common folk can realize how bad the situation actually is.

Luthen explains his accelerationist ideals

And it is to further this goal of his that he hires Andor as the final thief in his secret team.

So being a thief turned rebel, it is very poignant that Andor begins this season as well with a stealing Job.

He has been assigned to steal a TIE Interceptor, the only ship in the TIE series that has hyperspace capabilities at this time in the Star Wars Galaxy.

All other ships in the TIE series do not have this capability as they are stored in Hangars of the Imperial Star Destroyers and other larger ships and used as secondary defense, in order to save on costs only the large imperial Ships have hyperspace Engines.

But the rebel alliance need to go undetected unlike the Empire who seek to strike fear and subservience in those who would oppose them, and so they mostly operate through small ships and also they need quick escapes therefore all ships have hyper Drives.

Therefore a TIE Interceptor is the best ship the Rebel Alliance can hope for.

Andor steals a TIE interceptor

The other role this scene plays is to establish the cost of the Rebellion, as the helper that Andor flipped actually likes working where she is and after this her life there will be thrown into Jeopardy.

To talk about the cost of Rebellion, Mon Mothma is having her daughters Wedding, a wedding that is happening because Mon Mothma was funding the rebellion and the Empire was spying on her, and a hole of that size in her bank account will turn eyes.

She turned to Tay who turned to Davos a gangster who seeks to marry his son with Mon Mothma's daughter in order to higher his own status, following the Chandrilan custom of Arranged marriages.

The thing is, Mon Mothma's daughter Leida actually has a childlike fascination with these traditional customs in an act of rebellion against her otherwise independent mother.

Of course Leida is too young to understand the long term implications of all this beyond the glitz and the Glamor, and we already see a tinge of regret in her as she gets a glimpse of what is to come moving forwards as her new "husband" refuses to hold her hand.

Leida cries because her about to be husband wont hold her hand

Mon Mothma is directly responsible for this predicament as the marriage was a trade for her being bailed out.

So in essence she sold her daughter for the sake of the Rebellion.

And after a very misjudged appeal to her daughter's lingering appeal to call the marriage off, Mon Mothma gives in to the booze and dances her sorrows away, turning into her mother who was also drunk on her daughter's marriage.

Meanwhile her sister Vel, seems supremely uncomfortable in this arranged marriage setting as not only does she oppose this custom, Arranged marriages have traditionally been heteronormative and Vel is in love with a woman called Cinta.

Cinta however is more dedicated to the rebellion and that strains their relationship, in no small part because Cinta is on Chandrilla for Vel's niece getting married but not to attend the marriage, only to spy on Tay who is getting cold feet and might sell the rebellion.

She is here on Luthen Rael's orders.

Cinta takes care of Tay Kolma

But this party isn't without it's problems, for one Andor isn't answering Kleya's calls and the reason is, the place where he was supposed to land is being controlled by a fractured rebel cell that is sop disorganized and childlike that for a moment I considered if they were the kids from the first three episodes of season one, you know the ones Andor grew up with.

The show seems to have forgotten about them, and his sister.

This Rebel Cell captures Andor and splits down the middle fighting over food, the ship and the prisoner, and they resolve it by stone paper and scissors, so in the mean time Andor sneaks off and flies away in the ship.

But Kleya doesn't exactly wait for Andor, she tries to contact Bix, who is not having that much luck with that either, because currently Bix and the rest of Andor's gang are facing an imperial scanning.

This is a parallel to illegal immigrants in a country as they have no documents but still have no choice but to live there.

Wilmon, one among the gang falls in love with their owner's daughter, but their romance cannot be as her father sells Andor's team while pretending to care for them just so he can have a flawless interaction with the imperials.

Wilmon's short love story

To further hammer home this parallel, one of the superior imperial officers has the eye for Bix, and instead of getting to know her or taking her consent into account, he blackmails her using her illegal immigrant status as a sword over her head to coax her into sexual favors.

She refuses and responds to this attempted sexual assault by hitting him so hard on the head that he dies.

Obviously the imperial underlings see this as an act of rebellion, and go after her, only to be taken down by Andor using their own TIE interceptor against them, unfortunately, Brasso, the guy who made the biggest impact on the Pre ox Morlana group by tying their escape ship to a tether causing it to explode in an impact with a crane close by, has died.

Brasso's death

But disconnected from all this is the empire.

Krennick is back from Rogue one as he prepares for making the death sta... sorry unlimited clean energy, and to get this unlimited clean energy, they need a mineral called calcite from a core world called Ghorman.

in his closed circle of people who are running this operation are senators, propagandists and of course ISB agents Major Partagaz and Dedra Mero, Dedra being the only other person from ISB other than their obvious leader, asked for specifically by Krennick to rule over Ghorman after their takeover, and she proves his choice as immediately right when she suggests that in order to crack down this hard, they need a group of rebels who would fuck up, do the wrong thing allowing them to swoop in and take power.

If you would remember, this is exactly what happened to Ferrix post Andor's escape.

Dedra explains her plan to Krennick

And finally in his dream relationship with Dedra Mero is Syrill Karn who is just having the worst day of his life while making his girlfriend meet with his mother.

Obviously his mother tries her best to control him causing him to have an anxiety attack and Dedra threatening his mom to keep her in check.

This is of course so that he can keep in better touch with her as he is placed on Ghorman as an imperial Spy to get Dedra's plan into motion.

Syril's Mom is also an example of what Mon Mothma wants to avoid being but is forced to move closer to due to the rebellion.

And so the seeds are set for Andor to take this world a step closer to 1 BBY when Andor dies with a team of rebels to get the Death Star Plans to the greater Rebel Alliance so that someone like Luke can destroy the Death Star.
