Lanterns Episode 8, was it a worthy conclusion?

Woman smiles at a man beside a car on a sunny roadside; subtitle reads You’re here.

The Finale didn't give us any big battle, it also didn't give us Sinestro as a yellow Lantern, it did give us a Green lantern with Fear woven into it, but that is kind of it.

And yet, I can't help but be happy that I watched it, so what is going on here?

Meme with text pitching a live-action Ben 10 series and an HBO Original Aliens poster of Ben and Grandpa Max back-to-back.
Alright, I had to mention this meme right?

Keeping Aside the obvious, I actually like the way they chose to take this show and that is because, there are other projects in the DCU that go into the Alien Craziness, and it seems there definitely was a need and room for a sho0w which entirely focused on the Human cost of Superheroing.

Because that is what this was.

Everything from the Jordan Boys Legacy to the Episode 3 Flashback to John's Past, to the very way Hal was killed.

And it is something that has been sorely missing from modern superhero Media, at least in any major way.

The Reason Shows like Daredevil were stormed towards by Fans because at the end of the Day it shows how lives were for those who aren't your Flying Superheroes.

But Then, was Lanterns the correct choice for it?

Dim office scene: a man writes in a notebook beside a monitor showing a surveillance image; subtitle says we’re all aliens.

Yes! I think so.

I know my opinion is going to be unpopular, and I know that because it is unpopular with me, Because I wanted to see Hal Come back, I wanted to see the Ring used way more, I wanted to see OA, and most importantly I think I wanted to see some Aliens

But technically we did, they were just disguised as Humans, which has the troubling side effect of feeling like they just wanted to preserve the budget of the Show because of course they did, having a eat your cake and have it too effect, wait that's backwards.

This is the kind of thing that can be really tastefully done if by the end the Aliens reveal their true form, but also if you don't do that then there is the other route of Trying to Humanize the non human.

I mean imagine a show about Angels living on earth but two of the most prominent ones loose their wings for like two Seasons, and like even when they had it, use it sparingly and it is like a big season 5 moment when they all bring out their wings ad start using their powers....

Oh wait I am describing Lucifer, one of the best shows in Existence.

Three men with huge black and white wings in a modern office; subtitle says Thats enough!

There this works to the show's favor because the Show is trying to Humanize Lucifer and all the other Supernatural beings.

Oh and also, did you know that Lucifer is actually also based on the DC comics character of the same name?

Ah yes, she appeared in Sandman Season 1 episode 4, which is also DC by the way, it seems a lot of deeper contemplative stuff is from DC huh? Imagine that a show about contemplating what it means to be a certain way.

Elderly woman in black leather stands between dark curtains, looking somber; subtitle reads What is it that kills hope?

Sounds almost like a show where the main focus is about the emotional side of things and about things not looking like they are(basically detective Comics) is very DC.

Lanterns was supposed to introduce us to the larger DCU with aliens and Androids, but I would argue it did, in a very interesting way, that made us feel they are just like us.

I guarantee that this show wouldn't have worked half as well if Noah and Zoe weren't presenting as Human.

But then lets actually get to what the Finale Does, and is it actually a worth while one, and that would depend entirely on what you are looking for from this Series.

If you are looking For a superhero Finale, then no, this is underwhelming, but as a Detective show, like everything in this season, this is wonderful writing.

The Final pay off is: Why did Hal go to this planet, how did he go there, who killed him and will John Finally embrace his role as a Lantern and if so, how?

I believe many people will hate Kerry for the Choice she made here, many people who obviously aren't and will never be parents.

Woman in a dark coat aims a handgun in a dim room, face tense; subtitle reads Goddamn it, I love you.

The main point being made here, is that Morality isn't black and white, and that similarly, just because Noah is a Man hunter, doesn't mean he will break bad and become evil.

And Simultaneously, Fear isn't something to be afraid of.

Don't be afraid to be Afraid.

But notice how John's new Lantern is forged in a place full of Fear, and has Yellow impurities.

It seems that in this continuity, we will have a Parallax but it will be John instead of Hal.

But that is all for Season 2, and that is actually disappointing.

Split-screen DC art of Hal Jordan and John Stewart as Green Lanterns, fists raised with glowing rings and names above.
